Wolf meets a Wall
In this story, everything is alive: the earth, the sky, and every little being inhabiting the vast, wondrous world. Wolf does not care about that. He loves running, to be free. But only on his conditions! So he runs and runs, not paying any attention to others, or to the fact that he is part of the whole, until…. He runs into a wall. And it won’t let him through!
No way this wall is going to stop him! When his attempts to climb over and dig his way underneath it fail, he is infuriated and decides to run around the world to get to the other side. But when he finally gets there, he realizes something terrible: he does not like it there at all! He is exhausted, and alone. But help is coming where Wolf least expects it. The wall might not be against him after all….
Development
Underneath you find the first version of the storyboard, some early sketches when I first thought of this story, and some impressions of how the characters were developed.
For the spreads I worked with layers in photoshop and created the characters partly on white paper and partly on bright yellow paper. I eventually chose oil pastels for the characters, which brings some challenges in terms of creating detail, but has a very nice structure and warmth. Work in progress!
